Keeping a tidy home can be very overwhelming. There are countless daily chores that need done on repeat, on top of the weekly and monthly chores like deep cleaning. As a mom, I sometimes feel like I am drowning in house work. When I quit my office job to become a stay at home mom, I took on all of the house chores as my responsibility. My husband works full time to provide for us and he takes care of the outdoor work, so because he works so hard I wanted to bless him by taking care of the inside of the home and not having any expectations of him helping me with the chores. That being said, my husband blesses me by occasionally helping me out inside when he can.

Over the past year of being a stay at home mom and homemaker I have learned a few tips and tricks to making keeping a tidy home more manageable, today I want to share those tips with you!

Never go to Bed with a Messy House

My first tip is to never go to bed with a messy house. This is easier said than done however. I find this really sets the tone for the next day. Waking up to a messy house on top of the mile long list of chores you already had on your list can be very overwhelming. Anybody else find that if you are too overwhelmed you lose motivation to do anything? I know it can’t just be me! So at the end of the day when the kids are finally in bed and you are exhausted, do your future self a favor and do a quick tidy.

Keep Cleaning Supplies at Arms Reach

Okay, so arms reach may be a little dramatic, but what I mean by this is to keep your cleaning supplies in a convenient place. A couple examples of how I do this is keeping a brush and cleaning spray on the counter by my kitchen sink, this helps me clean my kitchen sink far more often. Another way you can put this into practice is by keeping a toilet cleaning brush in each bathroom, nobody wants to move a nasty toilet brush from one bathroom to another. I recommend you pick your least favorite chores and find a way to make them easier by possibly keeping the supplies you need for that chore in the most convenient place.

Buy New Cleaning Supplies

Now I am pretty frugal so I don’t mean blow a bunch of money on cleaning supplies you don’t need. I just mean spend about three dollars to buy a fun new multi purpose spray that smells nice, or a room spray, something that will get you motivated to clean.

Clean up as You go

I am mostly talking about cooking here try to clean up the messes you make as you are cooking dinner. Do you ever just stare at the giant mess after dinner and dread cleaning it up? This will help you get out of the kitchen quicker after dinner, I mean I don’t know about you, but after cooking dinner and cleaning up the mess I’m ready to get out of the kitchen.

Laundry

Laundry is a never ending chore. There is always another load to be washed, dried, folded, and put away. One huge tip I have for this is to not own clean laundry baskets.. Yup I said it, no more letting the clean laundry pile up! I only own one basket for clean laundry this helps me to fold and put away each load of laundry promptly rather than letting a mountain of laundry pile up. One last tip for laundry is to make it enjoyable! Fold laundry during nap time and watch your favorite tv show!

Making Your Bed

I find that making my bed sets the tone for the rest of my day. Having a made bed relieves some of my stress and creates a relaxing environment to unwind in after a long day.

These tips for keeping a tidy home have taken a lot of weight off my shoulders and made house work more enjoyable and less overwhelming. Maintaining a tidy home gives me the motivation to joyfully serve my family and I hope it can do the same for you!
