I don’t know about you, but barbecue is a summer time favorite at our house! We eat barbecue on chicken, pork chops, and hamburgers. One of my favorite ways to eat barbecue is on pulled pork. I love to go out to eat at cute local barbecue places and I never could find a recipe that tastes quite as good as the restaurants. Until now! Guys, I’m not new to making pulled pork. I’ve made pulled pork countless times, and it was good, it just wasn’t great. Now I have perfected a delicious pulled pork recipe! This crock pot pulled pork is flavorful, juicy, and just absolutely delicious!
Let’s talk about how I got to this recipe. When I had just had my son, our Pastor’s wife made us dinner. She made some amazing pulled pork! It was way better than the pulled pork I had been making, so I asked her what her secret was and she told me to use a pork shoulder roast. This was the game changer. I had always used pork loin and like I said, it was good, just not great.
I began using Pork shoulder roast I used the same mesquite seasoning I had always used, but using the different cut of meat made a huge difference. At this point the pulled pork tasted better, but still not exactly what I was looking for. Then I found what I call the “secret” ingredient! Cinnamon! You probably think I’m crazy, but don’t knock it until you try it! Seriously this key ingredient is what pushes it over the top! Cinnamon perfects the recipe. I know it sounds weird, believe me I do. In fact the first time I made it this way I didn’t tell my husband that I put cinnamon in it in fear of him not wanting to try it if he knew. After he tasted it and loved it, I told him and now I don’t make it any other way!

I have never heard of anyone else using cinnamon. I feel like the world is missing out! So spread the word. Or even better, throw this delicious pulled pork in the crockpot and have some family and friends over to see for themselves!
Ingredients
Pork shoulder roast
Grill Mates mesquite marinade mix (you will need 1/4th cup oil and 1/4th cup water for the mix)
Cinnamon to taste
Your favorite barbecue sauce
Instructions
Add 1/2 a cup water to the crock pot
Place the pork in the crock pot with the side with the most fat facing up (this will help keep it from drying out)
Mix the water and oil with the mesquite seasoning
Pour mesquite seasoning over roast
Sprinkle 1 tsp cinnamon over roast and 1 tsp cinnamon in bottom of crock pot
Cook on low for about 7 hours or until pork is tender and fully cooked
Shred pork and pick out the fat pieces.
